Come join us on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. YMCA Camp Abnaki is a 122-year-old residential summer camp on the shores of North Hero, Vermont. We have 65 acres of property with over 40 buildings, some of which are more than 100 years old. Generations of campers return year after year to be part of the Abnaki community and to participate in traditional summer camp programming. Camp Abnaki offers field sports, arts and crafts, sailing, canoeing and large-scale group games. We also host school groups, weddings and various private functions during the Spring and Fall seasons. 
 
We are searching for someone with a varied set of skills that can help us maintain and improve our beautiful facility to be enjoyed by the next generations of campers. Each day is different at camp and our property team is consistently adapting to the needs of this dynamic property and organization. This role provides support to the Property Manager in maintaining the grounds at Camp Abnaki, assisting with maintenance and repairs, improvement of the camp facilities, and landscaping. 
 
We are looking for the right fit to join our hard-working crew and we are happy to adjust schedules for the right person. This is a flexible position that would be suitable for both full-time or part-time work in the winter months and full-time in the summer. 
 
 
POSITION SUMMARY: 
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role provides support to the Property Manager in maintaining the grounds at Camp Abnaki, assisting with maintenance and repairs, security of camp buildings, and landscaping. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
·       Assist the Property Manager with general winter maintenance. 
·       Attend to basic plumbing and electrical issues.  
·       Assist with carpentry projects, as assigned.  
·       Respond to maintenance concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.  
·       Assist with repairs of camp-owned vehicles including mowers, boat engines, and passenger vehicles. 
·       Support the Property Manager responsibilities in their absence. 
·       Assist the Property Manager with general groundskeeping. 
·       Assist with the seasonal opening and closing of the camp property. 
·       Lead a small team of maintenance staff during camp season.  
·       Assist with installation, maintenance, and removal of raft and dock systems seasonally. 
·       Respond to waterfront and camper emergencies, as needed.  
·       Work closely with the Property Manager to help facilitate and coordinate volunteers and the assigned projects. 
·       Demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as well as the camp motto, Help the Other Fellow.  
·       Participate in staff training, as required. 
·       Maintain positive community relations through regular communication/contact with local authorities and governing bodies. 
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
·       Possess a skill set in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or landscaping.  
·       Hold and maintain a valid Driver’s License.  
·       Operate machinery such as vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers, wood splitter, chainsaw, and weed whacker.  
·       Support the camp experience with a friendly and welcoming attitude toward campers and staff.  
·       Clearly provide instruction and direction to ensure efficiency and safety of participants involved. 
·       Ability to work independently with self-motivation, drive, flexibility, and adaptability.  
·       Ability to perform under pressure in the event of an emergency.  
·       Ability to communicate effectively to staff and campers of all ages.  
·       Demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as well as the camp motto, Help the Other Fellow.

Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
