POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This role is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, cleanliness and security of camp buildings, grounds, equipment and vehicles at Camp Abnaki, a boy’s residential camp that operates between June and August. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform landscaping tasks as needed, including the removal of dead or hazardous trees, grass cutting, brush control, care of walking paths, and removal of natural debris or litter.
Continually survey buildings and grounds for cleanliness, hazards, and to identify maintenance needs.
Perform chemical deep cleaning of camp bathrooms
Collect trash and recycling on a daily basis from villages, dining hall, and central bin locations, and transfer into camp dumpsters
Under the guidance of the Property Manager and Assistant Property Manager, assist with work projects.
Respond to maintenance concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
Ability to be a self-starter, while taking direction from the Property Manager
Support other facility needs of the Greater Burlington Y and Camp Abnaki as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have completed senior year in high school
Familiarity with operating tools and equipment, or the ability and willingness to learn
Ability to communicate orally and written.
Experience working with children ages eight (8) to seventeen (17).
Complete training in Child Abuse and Prevention.
Must be certified or complete certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds including loading and unloading supplies and equipment as needed.
Ability to operate equipment according to safe and recommended guidelines, including riding and push lawnmowers, weedwhackers, basic power tools and hand tools, and painting tools
Ability to provide first aid and assist campers and staff in an emergency.
Ability to participate in a range of activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour
