POSITION SUMMARY:
YMCA Camp Abnaki is a traditional overnight summer camp located on the beautiful Lake Champlain Islands of Vermont. We’ve been a memorable life changing experience for tens of thousands of campers for the past 120+ years. The camp nurse is an important part of our community and beyond providing healthcare to our campers and staff, they are able to integrate directly into daily camp life. Come work and play with our campers and staff. Enjoy time canoeing with a cabin group, joining an arts and crafts class, or relaxing on the porch enjoying the view of our expansive waterfront.
We are looking for a Camp Nurse for the summer or a combination of Nurses that can work a partial summer. The salary is competitive and includes room and board.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Maintain health record files, daily log and treatment book for employees and campers.
· Manage necessary purchases of medical supplies and equipment.
· Administer daily medication to campers and staff.
· Provide health coverage and stand available for emergencies, illnesses, inpatient care, and sick calls and provide transportation to specialists or the hospital.
· Meet with parents of campers to receive medication and discuss health matters pertinent to the camper.
· Coordinate relationships with local medical resources including surrounding clinics, urgent cares and hospitals, as appropriate.
· Work closely with Camp Director to communicate health concerns and procedures for medical requirements with campers in session.
· Ensure camp infirmary is kept clean, quiet and prepared for medical emergencies and ongoing health care.
· Provide supervision to the Health Center Assistant.
· Complete training in Child Abuse and prevention and attend portions of staff training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
· Must possess at the minimum, a Registered Nurse (RN) certification or a (LPN) and be licensed in VT.
· Experience working in pediatrics is preferred, but not required.
· Ability to live on camp property.
· Must be able to communicate effectively both written and oral.
· Build trusting relationships with campers and parents of campers to ensure comfort and ease of administering medication and providing health support.
· Possess solid leadership qualities and professionalism.
· Ability to problem solve effectively, smoothly and calmly.
